Mike’s favorite player dominates in the rain

The artist formerly known as Mike’s favorite player, Raul Ibanez had three hits and three RBIs as the Phillies defeated the Braves 6-3 last night.  Vance Worley pitched six solid innings to win his 11th game of the season. The Phillies have won Worley’s last 14 starts.  Braves starter Tim Hudson gave up four runs in six innings to fall to 14-9.  Michael Bourn had three hits while Dan “Baby Gap” Uggla hit a home run for the Braves.  The series continues tonight with Brandon Beachy for the Braves taking on Roy Oswalt.

The one hour and 52 minute rain delay did not slow the Phillies’ offense down in the bottom of the first inning. Chase Utley hit a moon shoot to center to give the Phillies an 1-0 lead. After singles by Ryan Howard and Hunter Pence, Raul Ibanez ripped a single to center that scored Howard and gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead early.  Dan Uggla and his obnoxiously small jersey hit a long solo home run to right center to get the Braves on the board in the fourth inning.  Chipper Jones and Freddie Freeman followed the home run with singles, but Vance Worley got two strikeouts and a ground out to end the threat.  Vanimal really found himself in trouble in the sixth inning. The first three Braves reached base in the inning with Alex Gonzalez coming up to bat. Worley minimized the damage by allowing a sac fly, a line out, and a fly out to finish up his night.  In the bottom of that inning, Ryan Howard led off with a walk and got to third on a Hunter Pence double. With Raul Ibanez batting, Braves’ Tim Hudson threw a wild pitch that allowed Howard to score and give the Phillies a 3-2 lead. Pence would score on a Ibanez RBI double.  The Braves would make it for 4-3 in the seventh inning on a Dan Uggla RBI fielder’s choice.  In the bottom of the seventh inning, a Ryan Howard RBI ground out and Raul Ibanez RBI single capped the scoring for the Phillies. The Braves got a runner in scoring position off of Brad Lidge in the eighth, but Michael Bourn struck out to end the threat. Martin Prado led off the 9th inning with a single for the Braves but was erased on a double play. Ryan Madson would proceed to strike out Baby Gap to finish the game to pick up his 28th save of the season.

Notes:

-It’s a shame how the teams had to play in a steady rain most of the night, but I understand why. Simply no days off until the end of the season for the Phillies and the Braves already have a doubleheader Thursday.

-Ryan Howard is really struggling to run the bases with the foot, ankle problems he has.

-Chase Utley’s home run was a bomb as was Dan Uggla’s.

-Glad to see Raul wake up. He’s continuing the good/bad/good/bad month.

-Ross Gload almost hit a home run, his hip has zapped his power.

-Brian McCann runs like a catcher and by catcher I mean 80-year-old man.

-Brian Schneider is absolutely brutal to watch.

-The Phillies have 90 wins on September 7th.

-That’s crazy.

-Not sure if you can see this, but I really dislike Dan Uggla. A lot.

-Mike O was in the press box last night and provided Warren with notes & quotes that he choose not to use.
