A week after Melky Cabrera was suspended for steroids, the Bay Area was hit with another suspension. Bartolo Colon was given 50 games today for testing positive for testosterone.
Colon was having a tremendous season for the A’s going 10-9 with 3.43 era and 91 strikeouts in 152.1 innings. His bounce back year has helped the A’s stay in the Wild Card race much later than anyone expected. Colon has stated his guilt saying “I apologize to the fans, to my teammates and to the Oakland A’s” “I accept responsibility for my actions and I will serve my suspension as required by the joint drug program.” The suspension will be for the last 40 games of this season and the first ten games of the post season or next season depending on how far Oakland goes into October. He is the 5th player this season to be suspended under the MLB drug policy.
