MLB Wild Card Predictions

The 2012 Major League Baseball postseason gets underway Friday evening in Atlanta starting at 5:07 pm.  The Braves host the defending World Champion St. Louis Cardinals in the initial NL Wild Card game.  The American League game at 8:37 pm will feature the Cinderella Baltimore Orioles and the two-time defending American League Champion Texas Rangers.  In a format change from the past we get our first taste of a winner take all playoff game to determine which wild card team heads to the division series.

NL Wild Card

St.Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves, 5:07 pm

Kyle Lohse (16-3, 2.86 ERA) vs. Kris Medlen (10-1, 1.57 ERA)

Just one year ago the Cardinals were the benefits of the Braves September swoon.  Now they have the opportunity for another magical at the expense of Atlanta due to the new MLB Playoff format.  Hard to believe that the potential is there for this to be Chipper Jones final at bat.

AL Wild Card

Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers, 8:37 pm

Joe Saunders (9-13, 4.07 ERA) vs. Yu Darvish (16-9, 3.90 ERA)

It’s been Oriole Magic from April till October, but will it continue against the playoff tested Texas Rangers? The country of Japan will have all eyes on Yu Darvish as he makes his first career postseason start.  Like Chipper Jones, Jim Thome is a future Hall-of-Famer who could be making his final appearance.
