The Ozzie Guillen era is officially over in Miami after a short 1-year stint. The Marlins entered the 2012 campaign with high exceptions following the hire of Guillen along with the acquisitions of Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell. The Ozzie Guillen era was off to a rough start in early April when he was suspended for 5 games following controversial remarks made about Fidel Castro. “I love Fidel Castro … I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that motherf*cker is still here.” The controversial statements were a real concern to Marlins ownership, specifically considering the large population of Cubans in the Miami area. The Marlins concluded the 2012 season with a 69-93 record and a last place finish in the National League East. Don’t feel bad for Ozzie as he will still collect $7.5 million over the next 3 years. Enjoy the paid time off Mr. Guillen.
