RIP Deacon Jones

Even though sacks were not a registered stat, Jones had 173.5 in his career.

The NFL lost one of its best pass rushers and spokesman on M0nday. David “Deacon” Jones passed away at his home on Monday night at the age of 74. Jones played 14 seasons for the Rams, Chargers and Redskins. He was a tremendous pass rusher and even though sacks were not yet a recorded stat, it is rumored that he had 173.5 in his career. Jones was a member of the “Fearsome Foursome” Rams from 61-71 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. He has served as a mentor for new Hall of Fame inductees, making them feel welcome and teaching them what it means to be in this exclusive fraternity. Deacon Jones was a tremendous player on the field and a mentor to many former and current NFL stars.

Jones was a member of the LA Rams Fearsome Foursome from 1961-71.
