A’s Trade For Samardzija

Jeff Samardzija will bolster an already solid A’s rotation.

The A’s made the first big deal on the Fourth of July. Oakland acquired Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Cubs for their top prospect and two other players. Samardzija was a big commodity on the trade market that many teams coveted. He is 2-7 but has a solid 2.83 era and has struck out 107. Hammel is also having a nice season, he is 8-5 with a 2.98 era and 104 strikeouts. The Cubs pick up the A’s number one and two prospects, Addison Russell and Billy McKinney. Russell is a 20 year old shortstop, who will most likely play third in Chicago and McKinney is an outfielder who was the A’s 2013 first round pick. The Cubs also receive starter Dan Straily, who has made 41 starts for the A’s going 13-11.

Russell, the A’s number 1 prospect, will most likely play third for the Cubs.

Hammel will be a nice fourth or fifth starter for the A’s in the stretch run.
