One of the most exciting Major League Baseball trade deadlines was book ended by two aces being dealt. Jon Lester was traded to the Oakland A’s along with Jonny Gomes for Yoenis Cespedes. Lester has 10 wins with a 2.52 era and 149 strikeouts. Cespedes is hitting .256 with 17 homers and 67 runs batted in. Lester is a free agent after the season and Boston is hoping they will be able to bring him back. The A’s got another ace in the morning and the Tigers responded in the afternoon. Detroit acquired David Price in a three team trade with Tampa Bay and Seattle. The Rays received Drew Smyly, Nick Franklin and prospect Willy Adames, while the Mariners picked up Austin Jackson. Price has 11 wins with a 3.11 era and 189 strikeouts. These two trades put the Tigers and A’s in a pitching battle for the best rotation in not only the American League but all of baseball. Come October it will be interesting to see who was the better value at the deadline.
